Nicole Yang
Throughout my life, I have always had an appreciation and desire to protect our waters and the organisms that live in them. This has led me to my current undergraduate studies in Biological Sciences at SFU and experiences such as becoming a certified scuba diver and working as an outreach instructor teaching people across the lower mainland about fishing and conservation. I am interested in aquatic organisms in both the ocean and rivers with a special interest in fish and marine mammals.
As a USRA recipient, I will be working with Ben Zdasiuk as a research assistant on his PhD on juvenile salmonids in the Thompson-Okanogan region. I am excited to understand how the changes to their habitat due to climate change and other influences affect the composition of species and to help better prepare for the future of their survival.
